Description:
The Nivasa Foundation
Nivasa Foundation seeks to break the cycle of modern day slavery for women and their children in Sri Lanka. The Nivasa Sponsor a Child program provides financial support for victims of human trafficking to help them raise and educate their children in Sri Lanka. By working in conjunction with local organizations which assist with the rehabilitation of victimized women and their families, the Nivasa Foundation provides hope and help to those who need it most.
The Nivasa Foundation is the brain-child of Beatrice Fernando, president of Nivasa and a Sri Lankan survivor of human trafficking herself. The word "Nivasa" means home in the Sinhalese language and conjures with it the sense of safety, love, security and comfort that all homes should provide.
The Director of Economic Development and Sustainability has the following responsibilities:
*Time commitment is only 2-3 hours per week*
1. To uphold the mission of the Nivasa Foundation (Nivasa): The Nivasa Foundation provides for the basic needs of the children of victims of human trafficking and slavery. By providing the children with food, clothing, and an education, we help mitigate the circumstances that might otherwise drive these mothers to seek employment in the Middle East, exposing themselves to human traffickers;
2. Help Nivasa fund raise by obtaining individual donations, private grants, foundational grants, and other fund raisers.
The funds that you raise support operations, and the following programs:
a) Sponsor a Child program- Nivasa currently sponsors 10 children—and we are always looking for more children to sponsor. We provide the children with food, clothing, and an education. Visit www.NivasaFoundation.org to read their stories.
b) The Nivasa Human Rights Delegation program- Nivasa is organizing a human rights delegation that will travel to Sri Lanka. Delegation members will meet the children of the Sponsor a Child program and their families. Delegation members will teach the children about human rights and teach their mothers basic business skills and help them create and execute a business plan. Members will also enjoy participating in cultural exploration trips
4. Support: Since we are a small—but strong—organization, we may need your support in other areas of programmatic operations and development.
5. Leadership Meetings: Attend senior leadership meeting each month.
