Make a meaningful difference! Serve a person with ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. Help make life easier for him.
Because of the paralyzing and chronic condition, persons with ALS often have immeasurable amounts of difficulty doing common daily tasks or are simply unable to do them. A volunteer could play an important role in reducing stress level and increasing quality of life by helping in the home with:
- Cleaning
Day: Flexible, starts December
Time: Anytime between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m.
Frequency: Once a month, 2 hrs.
For safety reasons and to equip volunteers in this position, a screening process and training is required that includes:
- Volunteer Application
- Interview and Orientation (1.5 hours)
- Reference Checks
- Background Check
Must be 18 years or older.
Although it is not contagious, ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, resulting in muscle weakness and paralysis.
