Description:

A mentor is a caring adult friend who devotes time to a young person. Mentors are not teachers, they aren’t substitute parents, nor are they disciplinarians or a decision makers for a child. A mentor’s main purpose is to help a young person define individual goals and find ways to achieve them. At Foster Arts, those goals often (but not always) have an artistic dimension. In addition to making art together, matches spend their time in a variety of ways. Recent examples include re-potting plants, swimming at the YMCA, getting a milkshake, walking along the lake, inventing games and then playing them.

Burlington City Arts provides access to Firehouse classrooms and painting studios, print and clay studios, and the community darkroom. In addition we help connect Mentor pairs to local artists and events and can provide art teachers so the pair can learn new mediums together.
