Description:
Bed-Stuy Campaign Against Hunger (BSCAH) is unique amongst the food pantries in Brooklyn, because it is a "supermarket style" pantry. Our pantry allows customers to select for themselves both fresh fruits and vegetables and nutritious food items from the pantry shelves.
Taking a holistic approach to combating hunger, BSCAH also serves our clients through various social services including job training and education referrals, Food Stamps screenings, cooking classes, summer camps, pre-HIV testing, diabetes and high blood pressure testing, and financial literacy classes.
As the largest food pantry in Brooklyn, BSCAH offers a host of vital services to the over 10,000 clients we serve a month. Our goal is not simply to provide people with a satisfactory amount of food but to empower our families- this is where you can help!
We are looking for volunteers to fulfill numerous opportunities in our food pantry that reach beyond food provision and affect social change. You will be on the front lines of social justice and community empowerment. We have various opportunities available in our food pantry for the following positions:
Client Intake and Referral
Helping Customers Shop
Handing Out Produce
Customer Check-out
We have volunteer opportunities available for the following days and times:
Mondays, 9:30am-3:30pm
Tuesdays, 9:30am-1:30pm & 12:30pm-6:30pm
Wednesdays, 9:30am-3:30pm
Thursdays, 9:30am-1:30pm & 12:30pm-6:30pm
Fridays, 9:30am-1:30pm & 12:30pm-6:30pm
The BSCAH food pantry is located at 2010 Fulton Street, between Howard and Saratoga, in Brooklyn. It is easily accessible by the C and J/Z trains, and the B25 and B47 buses.
