Description:
The Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) is changing how we work for the citizens of Maryland! MDE is developing a volunteer base to help us perform some of our daily tasks in order to better serve the citizens of Maryland.
Volunteers will assist MDE in monitoring the amount of nonpoint source pollution entering Maryland waterways and the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Nonpoint source pollution is one of Maryland’s largest environmental problems concerning waterways; it kills plants, decreases the amount of oxygen in the water, and makes the water all around less habitable to any life form.
Specifically, volunteers will be reviewing examine developer logs for compliance to conditions of the General Discharge Permit for Stormwater Associated with Construction Activity using a checklist provided by MDE and to help maintain a database of information provided by The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Volunteers work 4 hour shifts once a week, though this may be negotiable.
