The Prison Assistant will be working full time to arrange publications for prisoners, maintain mailing lists, care for postal mailings, visit Akha prisoners in a number of prisons nation wide.

This position is open to the individual who can travel independently from central to northern Thailand on a schedule and stay on location in the community that houses the prison until all the Akha prisoners in that facility have been contacted before moving on to the next region.

A minimum one year volunteer committment.
A volunteer fee of $1000 per month is expected of this special individual as this particlular work takes extensive travel, lodging in urban areas, as well as buying small quantities of toiletries for prisoners. This position requires detailed reports on prisoners and prison conditions, individual stories of prisoners and transfer of information to publications and web site.

Requires a deeply committed individual to accomplish this task in visits to prisons with overcrowding, beauracratic procedures for visits, short visit times and poor communication situations.

Volunteer must be willing to learn Thai and Akha language (assistance availeable for this) so as to be best qualified to meet the needs of prisoners. Will be coordinating prison education work and working with prison and government officials to establish representation of the organization with those authorities.

Working to raise additional funding for this particular project is required.
