Descripción:

There are so many problems that involve the children and the teenagers from Ventanilla; one of them is the poverty in extreme situation and the misery. The most of them belong to population low stratus and suffer from limitations because of their family units. Nowadays, the children and teenagers are the most affected when they want to access to a fair and necessary education and recreation.

The project emerge as a result of the work that is being developed by our organization, that began with a project of social-educational intervention with minors at social risk in the year 2007 in order to respond to the demands that come from the different neighborhoods from Ventanilla and to give stability, functionality and efficacy to all social intervention performed not only with the minors but also with other population sectors.

The educational failure is a problem that affects the minors from different parts of Ventanilla, which result in a high rate of absentee minors and/or in an important curricular deficiency.

The increasing absenteeism and a low academic performance are some of the risk factors that are important to stop since they have been detected for preventing possible school truancy and avoiding the risk of the social exclusion suffered by these minors.

Family, personal, social and economic problems are the main causes that motivate these minors to practice the absenteeism and that lead to educational failure.

o Personal factors: the lack of specific educational support and attention by their parents and by other educational institutions, the lack of social skills needed in their development, a low self-esteem, are some of the factors that affect these minors’ educational situation.

o Family Factors: Problems in family relations have an effect in the integration and academic performance of the student.

In Ventanilla, problems of family discord like families with only one parent, homes abandoned by parents, families with alcoholism and/or drugs problems, families with 4 or 7 children whose parents can not offer them a good education or who can not pay for education for all of them, are presented.

However, the parents show very permissive before their children education.

o Social Factors: These minors have a lack of positive referents that direct them in their studies and in their personal life. Their parents can’t provide them educational support because they do not have any economic or cultural means to help them with their homework. In addition to these facts, it is the lack of schools and educational institutions.

o Economic Facts: The lack of means falls in the performance of these minors, who are forced to work since little ones for contributing to family support.

The public schools are far away from these human settlements, what involves spending money in transport that is not accessible for these families, additionally to spend money in basic materials (books, pencils, notebooks) that they can’t pay.

This reality consequences are:

o Very slow reading habits, influenced by the media and the lack of critical capacity, the participation in conferences, theaters, expositions or cultural expressions almost zero.

o The children presented curricular gaps in the reading and writing capacity and in the concentration and receiving of theoretical contents (Literature, History, English…) as well in mathematics.
