DAY CARE CENTER FOR EMIGRANTS´ CHILDREN
This project´s main objective is to take care of emigrants’ children from the Chunchi Canton.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Chunchi Canton is located in the south of the Chimborazo Province. Almost 12,000 people live there and most of them are dedicated to the agriculture or to the production of milk. This Canton has the most elevated migratory rate of the Province. Families migrate, above all, to the USA and most recently to Spain. Their children suffer from various emotional problems; some of them have difficulties in learning, etc. More than 15 people work in the center, among them 12 teachers and a psychologist.

To go in Chunchi, you need to catch two buses. From Quito, you will have to travel 5 hours by bus - three hours to Riobamba and then two hours to Chunchi.

VOLUNTEER WORK ACTIVITIES
The volunteer will work from Monday to Friday, 8 hours a day. During the weekend, the center may organize activities for the volunteers to go to Chimborazo, to the churches and museums of Riobamba, or at least give them the information necessary to get there. The project is close to the mountains where you can see birds, etc.

VOLUNTEER PROFILE
The project needs:

A psychologist or somebody able to help him/her.
Somebody who has knowledge in computation to work in the new computer center of the Institution.
A teacher or somebody able to assist him/her in the educative activities.
Somebody who knows how to paint, play music, dance, and organize activities during the children’s free time.
The volunteer could bring books, school material and whatever that would be helpful for the children.

ACCOMMODATION
The program offers free accommodation and three meals a day for the volunteers during their volunteer time. In addition the volunteers will have access to Internet and will be able to use the phone.

DURATION OF VOLUNTEER TIME
The institution is looking for men or women who are willing to stay at least two months - there is no maximum amount of time that a volunteer can stay.

NUMBER OF VOLUNTEERS
The project needs 4 volunteers that can work in different areas.

REQUIREMENTS
- A good level of Spanish is required. If the volunteer is not at this level, Ecuador Volunteer could help him/her to find the best program to improve their Spanish skills before starting the project.
