PROGRAM INTERNSHIP IN ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION
OVERVIEW: Canyonlands Field Institute is a land and river-based education center utilizing experience based environmental education to expand understanding of and appreciation for the beauty and integrity of the natural world. Located in the heart of the Colorado Plateau, we offer interdisciplinary studies in natural science, the literary arts and the cultural geography of the region for students and adults.
Program Internship: May 3- July 15, 2009
The internship will provide you with the skills necessary to administer field-based environmental education programs thru CFI. These programs will take on a variety of forms from local day tours, to extended river trips as well as multi-day programs at the Professor Valley Field Camp.
Using the CFI curriculum the intern will be trained about a wide range of topics related to the Colorado Plateau such as natural and cultural history, geology, and regional issues. The intern will also gain skills necessary for safe and effective group management and teaching.
Intern Responsibilities:
• Become familiar with the mission and programs of CFI
• Be willing to work with a diverse population of clients and show flexibility with assigned tasks
• Spend 20 days a month with up to 4 standby days assisting staff at camp, in office and on river
• A $100 per week stipend provided
• Shared co-ed employee housing and tent/tipi housing at field camp during programs available
• Due to the small office staff at CFI, intern will assist with some office duties and maintenance
• Qualifications require first aid and CPR training, minimum age of 21 and a good driving record
• Potential for future hire for full-time and seasonal position at CFI depending upon performance
