Description:

CURRENT INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY -
SOTENI International is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping the orphans and other vulnerable children who have been most affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Kenya. "SOTENI" comes from the Swahili phrase sisi sote, meaning "All of us, together." You can make a difference, and we want you to join our efforts.

SOTENI Bridge Program uses the passions and interests of our Interns, who work in both rural and urban environments in Kenya. Interns become intimately involved in the breadth and depth of programming SOTENI offers, including monitoring community & sustainable development projects, completing follow up for an ongoing research program and service delivery to those affected and infected by HIV/AIDS.

When in Nairobi, Interns work closely with SOTENI Kenya's National Programming Director; your program of service is collaboratively designed to put your talents to best use and challenge your abilities in a supportive environment.

Interns receive valuable field office experience, and work side-by-side with Kenyan staff, Local Management Committees and community groups to achieve the program goals of SOTENI's four "Villages of Hope." Each village has unique programming depending on the needs identified by residents of the community. Interns will be assigned to projects depending on current programming priorities and the Intern's interests. Current programs include a Dispensary health center; the AIDS Barefoot Doctors (community doctors); a Library and Community Resource center; a banana farm; and a microlending program directed towards women.

Duration of an Internship is flexible and up to the Intern: many Interns have stayed between two and seven months, with longer periods acceptable as well. SOTENI is unable to offer paid Internships in most cases. Intern fund raising drives and grant application assistance are available. SOTENI will orient all accepted Bridge Interns on international development, HIV/AIDS, reproductive health, community mobilization, epidemiology, cross-cultural experience, Kenyan history, culture, politics and anthropology, local HIV/AIDS epidemiology; safety and other pertinent areas.
