Description:
When we meet, we knit, discuss local (and some not so local) issues, learn from each other, collaborate on other local projects that help our community – mittens are always on the agenda somehow and I’ve created some coloring & worksheets for smaller kids who get dragged to our group.
The goal is to knit at least 20 pairs of mittens for each of the county’s schools. It’s a biggie, that for sure but even if we only get a few schools covered, it’s better than none at all. Still, I really hope that we can do this.
How to participate:
Click [Join this Group] on the right hand side of this page. You must be logged in to join.
The group doesn’t meet regularly – I’m trying to organize some knitalongs or knitathons that will probably take place in January. I am also discussing the possibility of organizing younger knitters, too. In Ontario, children need to donate a certain amount of volunteer/ community service hours in order to graduate from secondary school and this give kids a chance to help out, for credit. So far, we meet at a local pub and in my living room.
We accept donations of: hand-knit mittens (acrylic yarn & in children's sizes); acrylic yarn, hat & mitten patterns and knitting needles; we also need places to get together & knit.
Anyone is welcome to join and all they need to is email me (tregan@sympatico.ca). I ask that people put “mittens” or “knit for kids” in the subject so that my Spam-eater doesn’t toss it out. Members do not have to live in Lanark County – in fact some knitters as far off as the Philippines have asked if they can join in. They’re going to knit a pair each and mail them together to save postage. The more, the merrier! Knitters who submit supplies or mittens get a special mention on our blog and a ‘thank you’ toast at our meetings.
