What is the role of the executive director?

Summary:

The executive director is the person appointed by the Board of Directors to provide leadership toward the achievement of the organization's mission and strategic goals.

Answer:

The Free Management Library provides a "defnition" of the executive director, lists general responsibilities, provides a sample job description, and suggests what knowledge and skills are required to be a competent executive director. See http://www.mapnp.org/library/chf_exec/chf_exec.htm

Further discussions of the role and responsibilities of executive directors are listed in the FAQ index at http://www.idealist.org/en/faqcat/6-2
