For Job Seekers

What should I say to organizations at the fair?

Answer:

Organizations will expect you to ask questions about their work, mission, available positions, staff size, average starting salary for a candidate with your qualifications, health benefits, diversity, and so on. They also will appreciate a brief introduction ("Hi, my name is Karen and I'm looking for an entry level position with a human rights organization. I'd love to know more about your work.") Please keep your comments short remembering that while organizations want to talk with you, they also want to talk with others.

Career Fairs are not a place to hold in-depth interviews. However, it would be advantageous to be prepared to talk about your experiences and goals as they relate to an organization's work.
