Spread the word about The Purpose Prize
Date: November 23, 6:31pm
The $100,000 Purpose Prize recognizes people 60 and older who are coming up with creative ways to solve society’s problems. Past winners have addressed homelessness, joblessness, discrimination, and other obstacles.
We want nominees to reflect our country’s diversity and to show that social change isn't just for the young. We think the Idealist.org community can help. Nominations for the 2010 Purpose Prize are now open and we thought you might be able to spread the word through your networks, including blogs, list serves, colleagues, friends and family. In its fifth year, The Prize provides ten awards of up to $100,000 to social innovators, 60 years and older, who are creating new ways to solve our most pressing social issues – from health care to the environment, poverty to education. Nominations, including self-nominations are due March 5, 2010 and can be submitted at www.encore.org/prize. Past winners of the Purpose Prize include: -Catalino Tapia, an immigrant who built a gardening business and then launched a grassroots program raising hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarship funds to seed the American dream for Latino youth. -Judith Broder, a psychiatrist who combines her experience and passion to recruit mental health professionals to provide free, confidential counseling to veterans, active-duty military personnel and their families through The Soldiers Project. -Don Coyhis, a former computer executive who built a nationwide substance abuse recovery program based on Native American beliefs and traditions. All the best, Alexandra Kent Director, The Purpose Prize Civic Ventures |
