The Idealist community is a vibrant collection of people and organizations interested in making the world a better place. We're weekend volunteers and executive directors; social workers and development professionals; college students and social entrepreneurs. We're large global organizations, small community-based groups, and everything in between. Together, we cover every issue, and we're in every country.
We have knowledge, skills, and opportunities to offer, and we can all benefit from each other's experience. When you join Idealist, you're contributing to the world's largest network for social good. With thousands of people and hundreds of organizations joining each week, there's always something new to learn, share, or do on the site.
There are lots of ways to do good in the world, and Idealist provides a neutral space for people and organizations from all points of view to turn their good intentions into action. Idealist does not endorse or promote any program or organization over any other.
Whatever your good intentions are, we hope Idealist will help you find a way to turn them into action.
We're here to make the world a better place. The mission of Idealist is to connect people, organizations, and resources to help build a world where all people can live free and dignified lives. We're excited to be doing this with you.
Idealist is yours. Much of the great content on Idealist is posted by you, our community. Without you, there wouldn't be any jobs listed or anyone to look for them. There wouldn't be any organization pages, and there wouldn't be anybody jumping on great volunteer opportunities. Every profile, organization page, and opportunity on the site was created by one of you for the rest of the community.
Participate. Idealist is only as good as you make it. The more you use the site, the more people, resources, and opportunities get connected. Create an organization page and post listings to tell others about your org's opportunities and events. Create a personal profile to offer your own experience and expertise and connect with people who can answer your questions, partner with you on a project, or help with an idea you're developing. Reach out to others. Ask for help. Offer assistance. It's what we're all here for!
Be nice. We want to keep Idealist a welcoming space, guided by a spirit of generosity and mutual respect. So follow the Golden Rule here, and be polite and respectful. That includes being respectful of other people's information and privacy on the site.
You're responsible for your corner of Idealist. Remember that everything you post belongs to you. Include as much detail as you can, and use appropriate tags and keywords. Keep your profile or organization page current, update or remove any listings that are out of date, and generally keep your corner of Idealist the best it can be.
Categorize correctly. It's important that everything on Idealist be easy to find, so be sure that you're posting your listings in the correct category. Keep jobs in the job database, events in the events database, and everything else where it's supposed to be.
If you see something, say something. We can't be everywhere at once, so we rely on our community to report content that doesn't meet our standards. If you see a listing, organization page, or individual profile that's unclear, problematic, or breaking our guidelines, click on the red "Report this page" button at the bottom of the page. If you get a message that looks like spam, click to let us know. And feel free to contact us if you see anything else you think we should take a look at.
Keep Idealist fair and useful for everyone. Only post one listing for each opportunity. Cluttering our search results with duplicate listings crowds out other organizations' opportunities and makes it difficult for seekers to use our search. It also makes you look bad and annoys everyone! If you choose to post a new listing for your position, please remove the old one.
Don't spam. Please don't use Idealist to advertise or promote commercial activity. Don't mass message other members. And please, please, don't be a spamming robot.
What you post is public. What you post publicly on Idealist will be visible to other Idealist users and may be distributed to other sites, via email alerts, RSS feeds, search results, and other social media tools. But don't worry, we'll always keep your personal information—like your email address and birthday—totally private.
We'll remove anything that breaks our rules. We'll remove anything or anyone from our site that we find to be violating our terms and conditions or breaking any of the rules we've set here.
Things change. We're always trying to make things better for you on Idealist, so you'll see tweaks to the site from time to time. Always feel free to let us know let us knowwhat you think.
