Posting

I'm a third-party recruiter. How do I post on behalf of my client?

If you are posting on behalf of an organization you're not a staff member of, please read these special posting instructions.

As a third-party recruiter, you can post a job (or event, internship, or volunteer opportunity) via your client's Idealist account, but you'll need to become an administrator of their account first.

For security purposes, we require that administrators from third-party agencies arrange for a staff member at the client organization to either send us an email from the client's domain name or telephone us to provide authorization.

Please ask a staff member of your client's organization to email or call us to authorize you as an administrator, then follow these steps:

  1. Log into or sign up for a free Idealist account, using the buttons at the top right of this page. Use your own email address. If you're signing up for the first time, you'll get an automated email containing a link to verify your new account.
  2. Use the search bars near the top of the page to find the client organization on whose behalf you'd like to post.
  3. Click on the name of the organization to go to its page.
  4. Scroll down a little and click on the blue "Become an Administrator" button.
  5. Either send a request to the existing administrators so they can approve you, or, if they are no longer with the organization, click to send a request to the Idealist staff, and we'll approve you internally.

If the organization you want to post for is not yet listed on Idealist, you can log in or sign up as above and click on the blue "Add Your Org" button to create an account for them. We'll review it and get back to you within one business day. Creating a thorough account profile—with as much info as you can—will make it easier for us to approve your organization quickly, without having to needle you with questions!

Once you're set up as an administrator of an organization, you can log in and click on the blue "Post a Listing" button anytime to post whatever your heart desires.

What can I post?

If you administer a nonprofit or community organization or a government agency, you can post every type of listing: jobs, internships, and volunteer opportunities; events; programs; and resources. Businesses can post every listing type except volunteer opportunities.

If you administer more than one organization, make sure to select appropriately from the list on the posting page. If you want to post on behalf of an organization that's not listed on Idealist yet, just register it! Be sure to search for it first, though—a lot of organizations are already listed in our database.

How do I post a listing?

To get started, click "Post" at the top of the page. Choose the type of listing you'd like to post. If you're the administrator of multiple organizations, choose on behalf of which organization you'd like to post,

When filling out the necessary information, remember that you can always save it and come back to it later, or click "Publish" if you're ready to make it public.

If you'd like to post on behalf of your organization and your organization isn't on Idealist yet, click here.

Can I post listings if I'm not part of an organization?

We do not currently allow individuals to post listings. If you'd like to include information about yourself, you can post it on your profile

How long will my listing appear on the site?

Listings expire after a certain amount of time, depending on the type of listing:

Listing TypeExpiration Date
Jobs (for U.S.-based organizations)60, 120, or 180 days (chosen at the time of purchase)
Jobs (for other organizations)60 days
Internships6 months
Volunteer Opportunities6 months
Programs1 year
Resources1 year
EventsRemoved the day after the event starts

If at the time of posting a job or internship, you specify an application deadline before the expiration date, we will automatically hide the listing on that date so that you won't receive late applications. You can extend the deadline and re-publish without penalty any time before the expiration date.

You can always hide a listing before its expiration date passes; or you can extend a listing beyond the time periods listed above (but in the case of jobs posted by U.S.-based organizations, you'll be charged again).

Do you review or edit posted content?

We do not edit content posted by organizations or individual members, but we do review some of it before it is published.

We review all new organization pages as they are created, to confirm that they were posted by someone from that organization and that they belong on Idealist. All other content (listings, individual profiles, etc.) can be published immediately without review, but we encourage you to report anything that's inappropriate or inaccurate.
