Since it was founded last spring, the Human Rights Awareness on Campus group at the University of Florida has garnered national recognition for its efforts to fight genocide in Darfur. The group's fundraising and letter-writing campaigns earned it the Darfur Activism Award from the Reebok Human Rights Foundation last year and influenced Florida Senator Mel Martinez to support congressional legislation on the issue.

Some organizations, like The Point Foundation of Chicago, have multi-million dollar budgets and are continuing to grow with support from corporate donors like TimeWarner and Abercrombie & Fitch.

At the University of Mary Washington, students' efforts have paid off as the school has agreed to raise base-rate wages for its lowest-paid workers. The school had originally planned to re-visit the issue at a later date, but positive financial news allowed it to raise wages sooner. Wages for janitors will start at $9.16/hour, an increase from $8.72. While the Living Wage Coalition at UMW is encouraged by this development, it will continue its push for higher wages.
Anniversary of Roe v. Wade Sparks Demonstrations January 24, 2006 The Stanford Daily
Pro-choice and pro-life groups handed out pamphlets at Stanford University on the 33rd anniversary of Roe v. Wade. As a memorial to fetuses aborted since the 1973 decision, the Stanford Students for Life erected white crosses on the plaza as the Stanford Students for Choice set up their booth on the opposite side. This year's protests were especially significant in light of Alito's possible confirmation as a Supreme Court Justice.
