At Idealist, we work to connect people, organizations, and resources to help build a world where all people can live free and dignified lives. At the core of our mission is the belief that when you bring good people together, good things are bound to happen.
The same principle applies on college campuses, which are hubs of idealism, intellectual discovery, active civic engagement, and social change. When you bring together people from different areas of a campus - across departments, offices, and organizations - you are able to:
- Capitalize on strengths and maximize resources
- Increase capacity for creative problem solving
- Avoid reinventing the wheel
- Build coalitions and alliances to demonstrate solidarity and achieve shared goals
- Exponentially increase the amount of good work being done!
The Building Bridges on Campus Initiative is about making these cross-campus connections. There are a number of different ways to look at building bridges:
- Building bridges between students, administrators, faculty, alumni, and other community members
- Building bridges between offices, departments, and organizations
- Building bridges between community service, service-learning, activism and advocacy, political engagement, and socially responsible careers
- Building bridges between the campus and the greater community
