Welcome to the New Internet Nonprofit Center!

Welcome to the new Internet Nonprofit Center! And welcome to the new Nonprofit FAQ!

We have combined two much-used Internet Resources under one URL to make them easier to find. We have redesigned the site to make it easier to use. And one organization, not two, will be responsible for maintaining these resources for and about nonprofits in the future.

The familiar features of both "Information for Nonprofits" and the Internet Nonprofit Center are still here to serve you. Directly from this welcome page you can use the Nonprofit Locator and you can see a list of FAQ items related to your interests. Options allow you to gain greater control over the way these resources respond to your needs.

Effective at the end of 1998, The Evergreen State Society of Seattle, Washington, has become the parent organization for the Internet Nonprofit Center. You can learn more about the Society's work by visiting http://www.tess.org/

Here's a quick rundown of the features available here:

  • The Nonprofit Locator offers an easy-to-use search tool for looking up nonprofits in the IRS master business file. All tax-exempt organizations, not just public charities, are included in the database here, information about well over a million organizations at your finger tips.
  • The Nonprofit FAQ contains advice and information for leaders and organizers of nonprofits from leaders of nonprofits. By choosing from over 100 keywords, you can select a list of items related to your interest or concern.
  • The Library includes longer discussions from a variety of sources, many of them focused on issues about nonprofits that reflect the concerns of donors. Many of the items in the Library are also mentioned in the FAQ, so you can find them through the FAQ keyword index as well as by looking at the table of contents of the Library itself.
  • The Form 990 Project represents a cooperative venture to demonstrate the practicality of using the Internet as a vehicle for collecting and distributing the information about nonprofits' activities that is contained in IRS Form 990. Eventually it will be possible for nonprofits to complete their 990s using online forms, and for state regulators, watchdog agencies, and interested members of the public to access a website to find current and detailed information drawn from this source. Meanwhile, the Internet Nonprofit Center is developing prototypes of the software and procedures necessary to make such efficiencies possible.

Volunteer help and financial contributions are always needed. Please drop us a line at info@nonprofits.org if you would like to find out how you can help.
