According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics opportunities in this field will grow much faster than the average for all occupations through 2008.
There is a trend toward providing treatment and services in clients' homes or in outpatient facilities.
Demand for services will increase in the U.S. as the population ages.
Turnover in this field will continue to be high.
Licensure and certifications will continue to be required of more and more of the positions in this field.
While the non-profit organizations that serve the mentally ill and/or disabled cannot engage in profit making activities, they will become increasingly entrepreneurial in order to raise funds.
The field is becoming more and more specialized as we learn more about mental illness and disabilities and how to best treat them.
