Given that tech work may be the same whether you're in the public or private sector, why are you choosing public sector? Do you want to do this enough that it will not upset you to be paid (much) less than the private sector?

The public sector is finally budgeting enough money to effectively use technology for the long term. They are also taking new initiatives to disseminate information, not just store it.
