Career Path
What was your first job after college and how did you get it?
Nursing. Applied to a local hospital.

How did you get your current job?
I believe in continuing education, so I obtained a masters in public administration and a doctorate in international healthcare management program development. I am currently taking courses toward a master's in nursing with a focus on clinical services management -- informatics. I search for teaching and writing/publishing opportunities, through professional journals and the Internet. I apply these experiences to international consulting job opportunities.

What experiences and/or course work in college best prepared you for this job or influenced your decision to do this work?
Experiences influencing my decision to do this work: nursing; my ethnic community network, for contacts; and continually searching for opportunities to expand my internatonal experience, through presenting papers at internatonal health conferences and publishing articles in professional, peer-reviewed journals (with domestic and/or international memberships).

Any regrets? What experiences and/or course work might have better prepared you for this work?
Should have obtained a public health or medical doctor degree or both.

Have you attended graduate school or are you considering graduate school? What degree do you have/would you want and why? Are there any limitations to advancement in your field if you do not have a certain graduate degree?
Yes, my nursing profession (and government regulations) always requires either an advanced degree or continuing education studies. I have a Master's in Public Administration/MPA in management for public and nonprofit organizations; I am working on a master's in nursing in clinical services management using informatics; I obtained a doctorate, EdD, in international healthcare program development. My profession and my two certifications in nursing administration/CNA and healthcare quality/CPHQ require me to obtain continuing education credits to maintain these certifications.
