What was your first job after college and how did you get it?
I got a job as a strategic planner for a community based hospital. I was recommended by a senior faculty member for the position.
How did you get your current job?
I was qualified for the postion; apparently not many people in the market can tolerate the many projects that are demanded from staff in the Executive Office.
What experiences and/or course work in college best prepared you for this job or influenced your decision to do this work?
I shadowed the CFO and COO of a hospital for a year. The coursework that helped most: English literature and management.
Any regrets? What experiences and/or course work might have better prepared you for this work?
More emphasis on finance.
Have you attended graduate school or are you considering graduate school? What degree do you have/would you want and why? Are there any limitations to advancement in your field if you do not have a certain graduate degree?
I have a Masters in Public Administration from New York University, The Wagner School. I specialized in Healthcare Managment and Finance. The degree has opened many doors professionally, due to contacts and excellence of the school's
rigorous coursework. I originally wanted to work in consulting and sought the degree to be more exposed to healthcare, to management issues, and goverance of organizations. As I've progressed in my career, I notice that I have a knack for corporate strategic
management and administration.
