- The aging of the population will demand more from healthcare within the next 30 years.
- The shortage of nurses and paraprofessionals impacts the quality and provision of healthcare.
- Medicaid and Medicare cuts impact funding and resource allocation. Managed care, as a money losing mechanism for providers, alters income levels and care maangement.
- Governmental and state managment (or lack thereof) of the key issues in healthcare impact the direction in which home health agencies, hospitals, SNFs, etc., are moving.
- There is a lack of planning in healthcare to address the awesome needs of the popultion. The industry is more reactive than proactive.

Mentoring is invaluable. Attending conferences is a great way to network and keep up with fresh, new thoughts.

- You have to want to work long hours.
- You need to be a 'generalist' no matter what your job or knowledge base allows.
- Get a masters degree earlier rather than later.
