Career Path
What was your first job after college and how did you get it?
Executive assistant at Eli Lilly and Company pharmaceutical company. I sent a letter of application, was interviewed and hired.

How did you get your current job?
After 20 years of working in nonprofit management and fundraising, I had developed a strong rolodex and a good reputation in my field. That allowed me to start my own firm quickly.

What experiences and/or course work in college best prepared you for this job or influenced your decision to do this work?
My college work had little influence on my chosen career. I came to this calling through volunteer opportunities. However, my background in business has been a marvelous basis for running a nonprofit and now my own firm.

Any regrets? What experiences and/or course work might have better prepared you for this work?
I wish I has gone back for my MBA much sooner. And, I wish I had taken more chances and been more assertive earlier in my career. I let opportunities slip by because I was not opportunistic. However, I have no regrets about the way things have turned out, so maybe my actions weren't so bad after all.

Have you attended graduate school or are you considering graduate school? What degree do you have/would you want and why? Are there any limitations to advancement in your field if you do not have a certain graduate degree?
I hold an MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University. I believe this helped me attain my last position as Director of Development at The Children's Museum in Indianapolis (the world's largest children's musem). However, in my field, fundraising experience is a greater asset than advanced degrees.
