What was your first job after college and how did you get it?
This fellowship. I applied my senior year in college. I knew I wanted to attend graduate school in a few years and I wanted an opportunity to work in public policy, but in a manner that would allow me to do substantive work. Fellowships looked
like the perfect fit for me.
How did you get your current job?
Paper application, and then interviewed. The fellowship has ten placements and during the interview, I was given the opportunity to state my preference for placement. Luckily, I got my first choice, which was the California Supreme
Court.
What experiences and/or course work in college best prepared you for this job or influenced your decision to do this work?
My research assistantship with a public policy professor as well as my general interest in public service.
Any regrets? What experiences and/or course work might have better prepared you for this work?
The field of judicial administration is not really known to people outside of those who actually work in the courts. It would have been great to talk to people in the field before I applied so that I would have had a better idea of
the variety of opportunities in judicial administration.
Have you attended graduate school or are you considering graduate school? What degree do you have/would you want and why? Are there any limitations to advancement in your field if you do not have a certain graduate degree?
I am going to graduate school next year to obtain my Master's in Public Policy. I think a master's degree is very helpful in getting higher level jobs in any public/private organization that deals with government decision
making.
