What books, magazines, periodicals, websites or other materials should people read to learn more about this field? |
www.courtinfo.ca.gov
www.csus.edu/calst/Programs/programs.html
What questions would you ask of someone who wants to do this work? |
Are you interested in this experience because you want to become a lawyer or because you are interested in judicial administration? This fellowship is great no matter how you answer the above question, but you should know that this is
not an opportunity to do legal research and decide cases. It is focused on learning everything about courts besides those two things.
In what kinds of jobs can recent college graduates have the most impact in your field? |
clerks of the court, legal researchers, or paralegals
What are the major trends and/or key issues in your field? |
The extent to which the Administrative Office of the Courts will oversee/control courts across the state. How courts are coping with state funding of trial courts.
What forms of support and/or advice have you found most valuable (mentoring, trainings, professional development, attending conferences, etc.)? |
My mentor and the other workers around me are invaluable.
What is a common or tough interview question a candidate in your field should be prepared to answer? |
The question I asked above.
What other advice would you give people who want to do this work? |
It is perfectly okay to feel like you don't know what you are going to do with your life after you graduate from college. In fact, I saw this fellowship as an opportunity to obtain a good job without long-term commitments. I did not
want to feel like I was stuck with a decision I had made right after graduation. If you are interested in any facet of the law, this is a great place to start.
