Bright Funds connects people with the causes they care about such as poverty, the environment, water, education, health and human rights. Through Bright Funds, anyone can create an online personalized giving portfolio and contribute to thoroughly researched mutual funds of highly effective nonprofits, all working to address the greatest challenges of our time.
Bright Funds works with some of the worlds leading NGOs, research centers and charities, as well as some of the country's most successful companies. We are a startup based in San Francisco, CA and a portfolio company of Hattery, a venture fund focused on social impact companies.
Here’s an idea: let’s take the hassle out of the giving process so supporting the causes we care about can be effortless and ultimately enjoyable.

At Bright Funds, we believe giving should be delightful: an act we can complete with ease, but an act that also achieves high impact.
So, we’ve tried to minimize the parts of the process that don’t always leave us with that warm giving glow.
With Bright Funds Recurring Contributions, you can automatically invest in your Bright Funds Portfolio each month, so you never have to worry about inputting numbers or expiration dates or even amounts.
Bright Funds will take care of the investing, so you can focus on the parts of giving that really matter— like learning about all the meaningful work of the nonprofits you are helping support.

Bright Funds co-founder, Rutul has become somewhat of a poster child for the new debate raging in Washington over issuing special immigrant visas to entrepreneurs starting companies in the states. (photo credit: Wall Street Journal)
Rutul’s story is one of inspiration— and one that has now been told by such major news sources as The Wall Street Journal , NBC News , Fox News and featured in Mayor Bloomberg’s March for Innovation immigration reform initiative.
Hailing from India, Rutul came to the U.S. for his masters at UCLA in computer science. After working in the technology industry for a few years on the temporary work visa (H1B), he became a permanent resident.
With green card in hand, Rutul was able to turn his idea for reinventing the way we give to charities into reality— by founding the social enterprise we now call Bright Funds.

But not every story ends like Rutul’s. Many would-be founders (or would-be founders of U.S.-based companies) are not granted permanent residency and are a forced leave the country.
Though the debate over visas has centered largely around “job creation”, fostering innovation is also a key component of the issue. Without residency Rutul’s bright idea could not so easily have become Bright Funds.
43 years ago in San Francisco, Senator Gaylor Nelson held the first World Earth Day to raise public awareness about the ill-effects of environmental degradation on our planet.

A little over four decades later, 1 billion people in nearly 200 countries have come together on the very same day—April 22nd—to celebrate and show support for environmental sustainability and protection.
Although there are many ways to show your support for our beloved planet such as attending an event like the one that took place in 1970 (pictured above), Bright Funds makes it simple to contribute to sustainable solutions and educate the public about current environmental issues.
Through the Bright Funds Environment Fund, you can easily support outstanding organizations working to curb climate change and pollution, as well as promote land conservation and biodiversity protection.
