About us

IslandECo is a social entrepreneurship that has introduced solar lamps and radios and solar home systems in remote atolls in Micronesia in 2000-2002. It created a small rural store and trained women who were high school dropouts to be sales persons for solar photovoltaic components. It imported quality global brands such as Xantrex, US battery, SEALITE, SunDanzer etc. It has supplied solar pv components to rural health clinics and many households and community and church organizations. It is now expanding to larger systems-i.e. 1kW- 10kW and is considering community based distributed generation.

IslandECo received competititve awards from the USDA Rural Utitlities Service and is providing subsidized solar refrigeration units to remote households in the outer atolls of the marshalls in collaboration with atoll level local governments. These projects require user financial input, user training and gradual ownership transfer of the equipment in an attempt to test and implement a user owned model of small home systems.

Research Education and Community Organization is a non-profit organization created as a sister organization to focus on non-profit research & education projects that are complementary and support energy education, training, energy behaviour research, and systems performance research or pilot projects that are demonstration and research oriented.

We are interested in expanding the envelope to establish microfinance, hybrid systems, microgrids, leased solar power systems between 1 kW-25kW to community, church and govt organizations and, electric vehicle charging stations. We seek persons who have an interest in implementing or researching such projects, have technical expertise to share and are willing to be demostrate some leadership in projects they initiate and want to have some freedom in implementing pilot or experimental projects.
