An Evening of Youth-Focused Climate Change Programming

Posted by: Michele Israel Educational Writing and Consulting

Description

Join the NYC Youth and School Garden Network and GROW to Learn to explore two powerful youth-focused climate change programs - The Alliance for Climate Education <http://www.acespace.org> and Rainforest Alliance- <http://www.rainforest-alliance.org/> that can benefit the work your students and you do around environmental teaching and learning.

Hear from:

The Alliance for Climate Education

At the Alliance for Climate Education (ACE), we believe that young people have the right to know about climate change – the science, the consequences and possible solutions. So we bring a multimedia presentation on <http://acespace.org/teachers/about-presentation> climate science to high schools, providing the background, the urgency and the opportunities that inspire students to take action. Hear about the change young people involved in the program are making in the community.

We highlight youth solutions and ideas for addressing climate change so they can inspire each other to take action. We provide leadership training and skill development to help climate-driven teens lead and connect to other young leaders to build a young, diverse and powerful movement that will drive climate change solutions in their communities right now.

Rainforest Alliance

Rainforest Alliance has free lessons to help students discover the role forests play in climate change. Deforestation accounts for about 17% of global greenhouse gas emissions, the equivalent of emissions from the world's entire transportation sector. Participants will be introduced to hands-on, interactive tools to help teach students about the carbon cycle, discover how much carbon a tree can hold and learn about the importance of forestry certification in protecting our world's natural resources in a Guatemalan case study.
