It is the mission of the Department to ensure that victims of crime in the City of Peoria are afforded the needed emotional support and referrals to minimize the effects of victimization, and to ensure that witnesses to crime receive the professional handling consistent with their important investigative and prosecutory roles.

The Peoria Police Department Victim Assistance Unit is recruiting volunteers to be Victim Advocates. This is a rewarding volunteer position in which volunteers are well trained to assist victims of crime. Victims are provided with victim's rights information, resources that may assist them based on their need, emotional support, crisis intervention, assistance with obtaining Orders of Protection, assistance with applying for Victim Compensation if applicable.
