Boston Green Academy (BGA), a new Horace Mann (In-District) Charter School in the Boston Public Schools, seeks to prepare students- particularly those who struggle- for the challenges of college and work in the new 'green economy'. Opened in 2011, BGA was asked to 're-start' a failing high school within the Boston Public Schools, and has spent its inaugural year setting up new programs, supporting students and families through a difficult transition, and building its own capacity as an organization. With 82% low-income students, 86% students of color, and 60% at-risk due to low academic achievement, BGA's work is to improve the lives of poor and under-served students by providing them a high-quality education.
