Internship description

The Intern for Women's Empowerment & Gender Equality in the water, sanitation and hygiene sector (WASH) will support a program to better understand and maximize gender outcomes related to market-based WASH activities. The successful candidate will help develop a specific program to promote gender equality and women's empowerment in rural areas, including working on innovative ways to trigger inclusion, leverage existing WASH stakeholders and activities, and reinforce the benefits of access to improved drinking water and sanitation.

Duties of Women's Empowerment Intern

  1. Assist with the development of strategy to foster women's empowerment and gender equality in WaterSHED program areas, coordinating with other organizations as well as field staff. The strategy will include a focus on women in business as part of WASH enterprise development.
  2. Research broad trends and provide inputs to the planning process to engage women in key areas of WASH.
  3. Support data analysis of indicators related to gender equality, women's empowerment, and inclusion.
  4. Participate in divisional and cross-divisional program/project planning, including mainstreaming gender equality into WaterSHED programs.
  5. Identify potential partners/collaborators on women's issues in support of building partnership that cut across the gender and WASH sectors.
  6. Related tasks as assigned.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA Education, Skills & Experience:

  1. University degree in women's studies or other relevant qualification (or working towards this degree)
  2. Proven experience in research, coordination, data entry and analysis or related fields
  3. Familiarity with modern technology and communication
  4. English, written and spoken proficiency; Khmer desirable

  3. Creative, takes initiative, dynamic and enthusiastic
  4. Good at problem solving and critical thinking and has the ability to work independently
  5. Ability to work on multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines

Term: This position is open for a minimum 2 month internship. Travel to and from Phnom Penh, Cambodia will not be reimbursed.
