REPORTS TO: Crew & Volunteer Coordinator and Logisitics Coordinator
STATUS: Unpaid Volunteer Internship, can be for college credit
GENERAL SUMMARY: Each Intern will have an opportunity to work directly with Avon Walk for Breast Cancer staff on various aspects of large scale event production, as well as assist on various aspects of recruiting participants, volunteers, and sponsors. Interns will learn the participant recruitment process and assist with projects to increase fundraising, awareness, volunteer involvement and participant registrations. Currently we are seeking qualified candidates for our Fall volunteer internship position. The Avon Walks are produced by the Avon Foundation, an accredited 501(c)(3) public charity. Funds raised are managed and disbursed by the Avon Foundation and awarded to organizations to support five areas of the breast cancer cause, including awareness and education, screening and diagnosis, access to treatment, support services, and scientific research, all with a focus on the medically underserved. The Avon Walk for Breast Cancer also raises extraordinary awareness as participants spend an entire weekend walking 39.3 miles through cities and towns around the country. ESSENTIAL INTERN FUNCTIONS:
1. Assist Avon Walk staff in daily event planning and production needs 2. Work with operation and logistic teams on community outreach and route development 3. Assist Avon Walk staff with recruitment, informational meetings, and larger special events 4. Offer impeccable customer service to all event participants and prospective participants 5. Perform other related duties as assigned by management 6. Moderate to heavy clerical work
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
1. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong organizational and interpersonal skills 2. Demonstrated project management skills, including ability to manage and prioritize projects with multiple and often competing deadlines, and ability to work under pressure 3. Proven ability to deliver high-quality customer service 4. Ability to work independently, under supervision, and in a team-based and goal-oriented environment 5. Skilled with PC and Microsoft Office (specifically Word and Excel) 6. Ability to maintain confidentiality 7. Ability to communicate with employees and other agency contacts in a courteous and professional manner. This includes client interactions with the Avon Foundation and its affiliates.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Upper-class Undergraduates and Graduate Students preferred. Majors in Business, Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, Public Health, Philanthropic Studies, are beneficial but not required.
