We are located in the Central American country of Nicaragua, in a little village called El Limon. Our U.S. headquarters are in Portland, Oregon and our volunteers and staff live all over the world!

The Development Intern can work from any location, but in-person training is only available for those in the DC metro area.

Job Title: Development Intern

Reporting To: Executive Director

Position Period: 3-6 months, 5-10 hours/week

Start Date: Immediate

Salary: Unpaid Position

Purpose of the position

The position of Development Intern is a 3-6 month voluntary position to support the development of Casa Verde's fundraising systems. It requires a high level of responsibility and will provide the intern with substantial leadership and grant-writing experience, as well as the opportunity to leave a profound legacy on Casa Verde as an organization.

The Development Intern will support the development and launch of Casa Verde's Volunteer Grants Committee by serving as committee chair and elaborating grant screening, application, and proposal materials. The Intern will work with Advisory Board members on the Finance and Fundraising Committee to complete an initial round of grant applications while the volunteers for the Grants Committee are recruited. When the Intern's tenure is complete, s/he will train her/his successor in committee operations. The Intern will report to the Executive Director.

All tasks will be reviewed by the ED, as well as Organization Committee members when necessary.

Responsibilities

  1. Develop Volunteer Grants Committee
    1. Elaborate Core Materials for Grants Committee

i. Draft boilerplate grant application

ii. Draft boilerplate letter of intent (LOI)

  1. Assist in recruitment of committee volunteers
  2. Assist in design and refinement of committee policies and procedures
  3. Chair Committee
    1. Facilitate meetings with committee members
    2. Delegate grant-writing and screening tasks to members
    3. Assess demand for and work with ED to provide additional training to committee members

3. Train Successor
