Established in 1985, Commonwealth Land Trust (CLT) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that is dedicated to preserving neighborhoods and preventing homelessness. CLT owns and manages over 350 units of affordable housing and provides on-site case management services to many of Massachusetts' most vulnerable residents. CASE MANAGEMENT INTERNSHIP

The Case Management department of Commonwealth Land Trust helps our residents to remain stably housed and access outside services. Case Management Interns greatly enhance the services we provide to our residents. They meet with clients, draft progress notes, coordinate activities, and lead group educational sessions. In addition, they help to identify residents' unmet needs (items like winter coats or cooking supplies) and solicit for donations to secure those items.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Meet with clients and provide informal counseling
  • Complete intakes, progress notes, and other required documentation
  • Plan and coordinate resident activities
  • Identify area resources and assist residents in accessing them. Resources include: financial assistance, food stamps, mental health counseling, furniture, clothing, soup kitchens, community centers, free activities, and events
  • Locate free activities/solicit ticket donations for residents and coordinate group trips to places like the Museum of Fine Arts, the Movies, the Aquarium, and the Arboretum
  • Coordinate or lead in-house events (movie nights, game nights, book clubs, walking/running club, yoga class, substance abuse and relapse prevention class, nutrition and health class, support groups, meditation class, etc.)
  • Create seasonal newsletters informing residents of local news and events

Supervision: Ongoing supervision will be provided by CLT's Case Management staff

Number of Openings: Flexible

Hourly requirements: 16 hours/week; 3 month minimum time commitment

Qualifications:

  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal skills
  • Punctuality and reliability
  • Bilingual capability (Spanish-English) is helpful
  • Prefer college graduate or undergraduate/ graduate students in social work, counseling psychology, education, public health, or gender/women's studies
