Overview of position: The Refugee Action Based Learning Curriculum Intern will help compile and create materials (with the help of the ESL Coordinator) to be included in an action based learning curriculum. The curriculum will be used by volunteers and staff during Iskashitaa events including Harvests and Food Preservation Workshops. Intern will coordinate the translation of these educational materials into various languages including Kiswahili, Nepali, French, Somali and Arabic providing key information about healthy fruits and vegetables to the refugee community.
Specific Tasks:
- Create and compile educational materials and flyers about local fruits and vegetables harvested by Iskashitaa in Tucson, resources in Tucson and common sustainable practices
- Work with ESL Coordinator to identify best practices on training volunteers to teach Action Based ESL
- Create documents specific to Food and Harvesting program for English Language Learners
- Coordinate the translation of educational materials
- Upload and organize educational material created on Iskashitaa webpage
Time Required: 3-6 hours per week.
Qualifications: 4 year degree or 2 year associate's degree or the equivalency in experience
Physical/Age Requirements: None/ Adult
Skills/Education:
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong oral communication and writing skills
- Interest and/or experience in food justice and sustainability, environmental science, nutrition, local foodshed management and/or botany
- Preferred multi-lingual capacity or experience working with multilingual populations- Languages utilized Kiswahili, Nepali, French, Somali, Arabic (not required)
- Knowledge of HTML (preferred)
Experience: Minimum of two year previous nonprofit or volunteer work or the equivalent
Training Required: On-site Iskashitaa training, Refugee 101 and internship application
