Internship description

Crittenton's Foreseeing the Future is a positive youth development, college access, and career exploration program for 8th grade girls. The goal is to motivate and prepare underrepresented teen girls with the knowledge and tools to successfully attain their educational and career goals. Participants of our program are predominantly Latina and African American middle school girls who come from low income backgrounds, have parents with limited English skills and who are often the first in their families to consider pursuing a college education.

Role and Responsibility of Intern

The purpose of the Foreseeing the Future (unpaid) internship is to assist Program Leader in providing direct service to adolescent girls during after school hours (2:30-5:30pm) two school days per week (from October 2013 to May 2014) and also to provide individual guidance and support to participants when appropriate. Intern will work alongside the Program Coordinator and teen program assistants to deliver the program. All program documentation, performance monitoring and other appropriate documentation will need to be submitted to Crittenton management. Intern will work in coordination with Crittenton to maintain high quality programs and make recommendations for improvements where needed.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reports to Foreseeing the Future Coordinator
  • Co-Facilitate program twice a week (during after school hours) for middle school girls
  • Prep time, program delivery, and reporting approximately 7-10 hours per week
  • Maintain communication with parents, schools and participants
  • Acts as liaison to partner schools, maintaining relationships with school counselors and other school support staff
  • Assist in coordinating out of school activities for participants
  • Attend trainings required by funder
  • Attend supervision and staff meetings

Qualifications:

  • Mature, bright, highly motivated university student (minimum college junior, Bachelor's degree preferred) in Social Work, Education, Counseling, Public Health or related human services field
  • Some experience leading/facilitating youth groups necessary
  • Interest in working with youth in at risk environments required
  • Bilingual in one of these languages - Spanish, Amharic or Oromo
  • Experience in college/career advising a plus
