Greenmarket Organization Information

Greenmarket's mission is to promote regional agriculture and ensure a continuing supply of fresh local produce for all New Yorkers. Greenmarket supports farmers and preserves farmland for the future by providing regional, small family farmers with opportunities to sell their fruits, vegetables and other farm products to New Yorkers.

EBT/Food Access Internship Summary

Interns will assist our Regional Coordinators, Market Managers and EBT Project staff with EBT operations at Greenmarkets and in the office. This internship involves: interacting with market customers; performing neighborhood outreach; running food stamp transactions; helping to organize at market events; office organization tasks; and working on other Greenmarket food access initiatives.

- Assist Greenmarket staff with community outreach – potentially to include flyering, postering, and working with community organizations

- Assist Greenmarket staff at market with promotions – potentially to include setting up displays, cooking demonstrations, and other at market events

- Assist Greenmarket staff with Food Stamp transactions at market

- Assist with organizing and compiling market materials & equipment

- Assist with the development of specific Greenmarket food access initiatives, e.g. Greenmarket Seniors, WICx2, Health Bucks, Veggie Rx

Ideal Qualifications

- Interest in farmers markets and/or related issues – including public health, nutrition, food access, food systems, and sustainable agriculture

- Strong communication and customer relationship skills

- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions

- Excellent time management and organizational skills

- Fluency in languages other than English a plus

This is an unpaid internship with flexible hours. We are looking for interns to work 10 to 20 hours a week from June/July until October/November. Interns must be open to working in all five boroughs, and most schedules require a weekend work day. Please submit resume and cover letter to rshepherd@greenmarket.grownyc.org.
