New York Needs You (NYNY) aims to level the playing field for low-income first-generation college students in New York City. NYNY is seeking a well-organized and entrepreneurial intern to join the Technology and Career Development Programs Department. The intern will assist in launching a series of career development events on three New York college campuses. The intern will gain knowledge in event planning, marketing, and launching new initiatives. The intern may also have exposure to internet research and web design. The intern will have the opportunity to attend staff and department meetings and meetings with external partners.

Responsibilities:

The intern will provide event planning and logistics management assistance, as well as general support to the Technology and Career Development Programs Department. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Advertising upcoming events on New York college campuses through in-person events, e-mail campaigns, and social media
  • Contributing to planning and logistics management for events
  • Helping to develop strategies for making events successful

As time allows, additional responsibilities may include:

  • Conducting online research for developing a new online platform for New York Needs You
  • Developing content for a new online platform including videos
  • Assisting the Fellows Program staff with workshop planning and implementation

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Candidates must be enrolled in a university or college
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to juggle concurrent assignments and prioritize accordingly
  • Flexible, including the ability to work well independently and occasionally work on ambiguous assignments
  • Experience with event planning preferred
  • Strong attention to detail
  • General knowledge of MS office and comfort with technology (including web-based platforms)

Commitment:

  • 15-20 hours per week
  • Duration: January 2013 through May 2013

Compensation: This is an unpaid position. Students may earn academic credit for this internship.
