SAPHIR, the Scientific Association for Public Health in Iran, is a non-profit, membership-based organization with a mission to "create a global network to generate and disseminate public health knowledge regarding Iran". SAPHIR members strive to improve the health of populations in Iran and elsewhere by producing and sharing scientific evidence regarding major public health issues.
We are seeking a highly-motivated, part-time program manager to assist the President and the Board of Directors in expanding the operations and managing projects including scientific workshops and webinars and creating a database of information on public health scientists interested in issues
regarding Iran. This is an excellent career development opportunity with great potential for linking with scientists and researchers, obtaining excellent recommendation letters, engaging in grant writing opportunities, and collaborating in scientific publications.
Qualifications and skills:
1- A bachelor's degree, preferably in a public health-related field plus two years of related experience; or a masters degree in public health-related field plus one year of related experience; or a similar combination of education and experience
We will consider recruiting near-completion students who would work in this position as part of their degree requirement or as an internship, with a minimum commitment of 6 months.
2- Computer skills, including ability to work with MS-Office package (in particular, Word and Excel); familiarity with Access and database design and management preferred; knowledge of WordPress a plus; familiarity with web-based platforms for communications and e-learning applications; experience using social media (e.g. Linked-In, Facebook, Twitter)
3- Excellent writing and communication skills in English; knowledge of Persian preferred
4- Organizational skills and capability to work both in teams and independently with minimum supervision
JobDescription
1- Managing public relations and communications to build presence and visibility for SAPHIR
2- Identifying potential fellows and inviting them to join SAPHIR, according to guidelines
3- Identifying contacts for information-sharing within universities inside and outside Iran
4- Contributing to the development of a database of members and potential members for SAPHIR
5- Compiling and sending regular emails (or a newsletter) on organizational activities, webinars, news, projects, etc.
6- Compiling and regular updating of list of contacts for newsletter and other communications
7- Creating and maintaining social media outputs for SAPHIR, on Linked-In, Facebook and Twitter.
8- Coordinating fundraising meetings and calls for President and Directors
Estimated Workload and Compensation
Around 20-30 hours per month, compensation commensurate with the level of experience and education
Location
Boston residence preferred, applicants in New England will be considered.
