Program Assistant for Summer Program at Purchase College

Description

The Bridges to the Baccalaureate, Research and Science Visions Preparation (RSVP), and Baccalaureate and Beyond (B&B) Programs are unique programs that aim to increase the number of first-generation, financially needy, and underrepresented minority students who transfer to four-year colleges after completing their AA or AS degrees. The Bridges/RSVP program allows students to engage in intensive research, while B&B students take an upper-level interdisciplinary humanities/social science course. All students are from participating community colleges and live on campus at Purchase College during the program.

The program runs for a total of five weeks, May 28th-June 28th 2013. The anticipated start date of the position is May 20th. The position is expected to last for 8 weeks. This is a full-time position, with varied hours and no benefits.

Responsibilities: The Assistant will aid the Coordinator of Student Support Services in a number of ways which are not limited to the following:

  • preparing for workshops, event planning, and setting up for various events
  • general student advising under the guidance of Coordinator
  • assist in budget management by tracking grant funding and expenses
  • program development
  • assist in the processing of payroll
  • handle issues that arise with students, faculty, and parents etc.
  • participate in local field trips
  • attend program related meetings
  • provide general support for the program, students, and staff

Qualifications: Preference given to candidates enrolled in a graduate program in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, or a closely related field and prior experience working in a college or university strongly preferred. The successful candidate must be energetic and passionate with an interest in support services or working with students from diverse and varied backgrounds. Must be responsible, dedicated, and student-centered. Must take direction well and be willing to learn and familiarize self with services offered on campus, helping students to navigate Purchase College.

Compensation: $5000 for 8 weeks
