Communications and New Media Fellow

Posted on: April 17, 2013

Posted by: Civic Works

Description

Civic Works is hiring a summer Communications and New Media Fellow to mobilize residents to upgrade the energy efficiency of their homes and create green jobs for underserved residents. The Fellow will improve Retrofit Baltimore's online presence through its website, blog, Twitter, Facebook and emails. Through the development of engaging written materials and compelling photography, the Fellow will communicate how Retrofit Baltimore's work effectively addresses poverty and climate change. Additionally, the Fellow will draft compelling content that tells the story of those helped by Retrofit Baltimore, including homeowners, community organizers, and the retrofit installers who have secured training opportunities and new jobs.

The Fellow will also contribute to the overall project's community organizing efforts, spending a proportion of his or her time working directly with homeowners, motivating them to retrofit their homes through neighborhood canvasses, phone banks and relationship building. Throughout this fellowship, the Fellow will build a strong skill set that will help him or her excel in political campaigns, issue campaigns and non-profit sector jobs.

Program Overview

Retrofit Baltimore is a program of the non-profit Civic Works. Its mission is to transform the clean energy economy into a pathway out of poverty for underserved Baltimore residents. The program does this by using innovative community organizing tactics to grow the demand for home energy improvements. Leveraging this demand, Retrofit Baltimore then connects homeowners with businesses that have agreed to exclusively hire underserved residents and implement equitable employment standards. Civic Works' green initiatives have been highlighted by Green for All, The Baltimore Sun, The Washington Post, and the US Conference of Mayors. Join us in creating a more just and equitable clean energy economy. For more information on Retrofit Baltimore, please visit www.retrofitbaltimore.org.
