Internship description

Position Description:

ICAP, a program of the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University, is seeking a health informatics intern to be part of the programming team in the SI unit. The incumbent will assist in the development of ICAP's applications and health information systems.

Duties include:

- Adapt the District Health Information System (DHIS) to meet ICAP-specific data collection and data dissemination needs

- Build data collection systems, based on open-source systems such as OpenMRS

- Design and develop custom-software systems to support research studies

Education:

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field

Experience, Skills and Minimum Required Qualifications:

- Ability to write SQL queries/routines and database development

- Familiarity with Microsoft Access, Excel and VB Scripting

- Experience in developing supporting documentation and training non-technical users as necessary

- Critical thinking and analysis, verbal and written communication

Preferred Qualifications:

- Intermediate proficiency in a high-level programming language (preferably Java) or a scripting language

- Experience working with DHIS and/or OpenMRS at a programmatic level

- Experience working with JasperReports

Travel Requirements:

- None

Hours/Schedule:

- 10-15 hours per week. Hours and schedule are flexible to accommodate student's class work
