Are you a recent or soon to be graduate that's interested in interning abroad at a non profit? The Institute of Latin American of Concern is looking for an energetic intern with the ability to work in a team setting, independently and multitask to join the ILAC staff in Santiago, Dominican Republic from January - July 2017. (End date is flexible based on the need of the Intern) Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis but priority will be given to those who apply by September 30th.

About ILAC

The ILAC Center in the Dominican Republic is an international, Catholic, Ignatian-inspired, collaborative health care and educational organization that exists to promote the integral well-being and spiritual growth of all participants. It is built upon the values of Ignatius of Loyola, Founder of the Jesuits (Society of Jesus). All of Creighton's ILAC programs emphasize the importance of global vision and understanding in the process of educating well-rounded individuals. To this end it offers dental, medical, nursing, pharmacy, law, physical therapy and occupational therapy, undergraduate and high school students, and also to faculty-led groups, medical/surgical teams and other colleges the opportunity for service-learning and immersion experiences in the rural Dominican Republic.

Position Responsibilities

Interns are responsible for hosting the groups to which they are assigned. This includes being present with your group during all aspects of the immersion trip, both while at the CESI/ILAC center and wherever their trip may take them within the Dominican Republic.

Interpretation and Orientation for Service-Learning Programs (60%)

  • Assist in the Orientation sessions for the different groups that visit the ILAC Center
  • Provide guidance and interpretation for the ILAC groups on educational tours and immersion experiences in rural communities.
  • Accompany ILAC groups on overnight immersion experiences in rural communities.
  • Assist with any other activity related to the visiting groups as requested by supervisors.

After hours Student Care & Duty (20%)

  • Available for night duty (during office hours or assisting with evening activities) 5 nights a week.
  • Available for weekend duty as requested by supervisor
  • Lead Reflections

Administrative Duties (20%)

  • Construct Calendars
  • Increase activity on Social Media

Qualification

  • Bachelor's degree completed
  • Spanish and English fluency
  • Prior experience in an ILAC program is preferred, but an experience in some form of service-learning and/or living experience in a Latin American country is required
  • Prior experience leading faith-based activities, such as retreats, mission trips, etc. is preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft
  • Attentive to detail, reliable and accurate
  • Haitian Creole fluency is an advantage but not required

The ideal intern meets the qualifications, is patient, flexible, sociable and comfortable working in an Ignatian inspired setting.

This live-in appointment provides a stipend of US$200.00 a month, room & board (valued at US$35.00 per day), international health insurance coverage, and one round trip ticket from any city in the US to Santiago, Dominican Republic. Loan deferral can be arranged.
