About AFS-USA:

AFS-USA works towards a more just and peaceful world by providing international and intercultural learning experiences to individuals, families, schools, and communities through a global volunteer partnership.

AFS-USA is particularly proud of its staff of approximately 200 people nationwide, currently consolidating to the NYC office. AFS-USA is equally proud of its network of more than 5000 volunteers located in communities throughout the United States. Our staff and volunteers work in partnership to deliver quality intercultural exchange programs to adolescents and adults, both those interested in coming to the U.S. as well as those U.S. citizens interested in experiencing life abroad.

Overview

The Marketing & Communications Department has responsibility for national strategies for recruitment of US high school students and recent graduates for its exchange programs, as well as recruitment for US families and high schools to host incoming exchange students each year. This internship will be responsible for providing important demographic information on our current client base via internal databases. Additionally, this internship may work with client focus groups, to seek trends in client "buying" motivation and behavior. If time allows, assistance with competitive research will be added to the work flow.

Responsibilities: (Key functions)

Research and provide analysis on US student, natural family and host family demographics/psychographics. This research will culminate with a written report to the Executive Team. Provide assistance with focus group project ranging from conception to event management to analysis of findings and written reporting. Provide assistance in gathering competitor's information regarding recruitment of student and host family recruitment, pricing and incentives. Add critical input to written findings.

  • Knowledge of basic market research practices
  • Reading and active listening skills
  • Problem identification and problem solving skills
  • Effective communication (written and oral) skills
  • Attention to detail
  • PPT, Prezi, Excel, Word and computer skills

Qualifications:

  • Education in, or practical experience in market research
  • Desire to work in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to commit to a minimum 8 weeks
  • Flexibility, reliability and willingness to work independently in a team environment

Work Conditions

The M&C Intern works in the NYC office. Office hours are 9:30-5:30.
