The New York City office of Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) seeks Spanish-speaking volunteers in NASSAU COUNTY, NY (Massapequa area)**
Kids in Need of Defense is seeking bilingual volunteers, primarily Spanish-English, to interpret and translate in connection with children's immigration cases in Nassau County. Volunteers may interpret orally at interviews and meetings for children and caretakers; other opportunities include translating written documents and assisting with community outreach. The number of hours and scheduling are flexible, and the attorney associated with the case will provide guidance for each project.
Prior interpreting and translating experience is not necessary, but you must be fluent in English and another language. Volunteers must consent to a background check, and must abide by a confidentiality agreement. Students enrolled in interpretation programs or in law school are especially encouraged to apply. KIND is happy to complete pro bono pledge forms or internship documentation, as requested.
