PHIVOG facilitates a diverse range of health and medical internships in Ghana, West Africa. These include placements in doctoring, nursing, mental health, dentistry and optometry (also veterinary health & medicine). Accessing basic healthcare services is one of the most challenging issues for low-income and disadvantaged communities. The problems are particularly acute in the area of reproductive health services and with regard to reducing the spread of communicable diseases. Thus, the support of volunteers is vitally important. Interns will work alongside local colleagues in a number of different health facilities – hospitals, maternity clinics, children's hospitals and local health clinics. Working on health projects is a wonderful way to develop personal and professional skills and abilities, whilst becoming familiar with challenging health issues faced by developing countries.
