Atlas Service Corps (Atlas Corps) is seeking interns for our Washington, DC office near Farragut North and Farragut West to support our international exchange program. Atlas Corps accepts intern applications on a rolling basis for the fall, spring, and summer semesters, or for winter break (mid-December through mid-January).
Atlas Corps, started in 2006, is an international network of nonprofit leaders and organizations that promotes innovation, cooperation, and solutions to address the world's 21st-century challenges. Our mission is to address critical social issues by developing leaders, strengthening organizations, and promoting innovation through an overseas fellowship of skilled nonprofit professionals. Profiled as a "best practice" in international exchange by the Brookings Institution and featured in the Washington Post as a model social entrepreneurship program, Atlas Corps engages leaders committed to the nonprofit sector in 12-to-18 month professional fellowships at organizations to learn best practices, build organizational capacity, and return home to create a network of global changemakers. Our Fellows serve at Host Organizations such as Ashoka, the Grameen Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, Susan G. Komen, the UN Foundation, Oxfam, WWF, and the U.S. Peace Corps. In addition to serving at an organization related to their experience, Fellows learn leadership skills while networking with skilled nonprofit professionals from around the world.
As a young and growing organization, we seek smart, hard-working interns to take on substantial tasks and contribute to the growth of the organization. Interns should be able to work independently, stay organized, take initiative, pay attention to detail, and have an interest in international relations and cultural exchange. Interns should be proficient in basic computer skills (Microsoft Office and internet research skills required; Gmail and Google Apps skills a plus). The internship is open to undergraduates, recent graduates, and graduate students. Atlas Corps interns play a critical role in our organization and have the opportunity to meet nonprofit leaders from around the world.
Interns should be fluent in English, and foreign language skills, especially Spanish, are a plus, but not required.
Atlas Corps offers several internship positions every semester:
The Atlas Corps internship is unpaid. Interns should be able to work around 15-20 hours a week. Preference is given to interns who can start early in the semester.
Atlas Corps offers internships during the spring, summer, and fall semesters, as well as shorter internships during winter break. We accept applications year-round; however, candidates who apply by our priority deadlines will be given preference. The approximate internship dates are as follows:
We currently have a special one-time opening from early March through late April 2014! Please apply ASAP or by March 7 to be considered.
Summer: May 12, 2014 - August 15, 2014. Priority deadline to apply: March 15, 2014
Fall: August 19 - December 12, 2014. Priority deadline to apply: July 7, 2014
Winter: December 15, 2014 - January 16, 2015 (with time off for holidays). Priority deadline to apply: November 1, 2014
Spring: January 20, 2015 - April 24, 2015. Priority deadline to apply: November 15, 2014
While we do have some flexibility with these dates, we would like all internships to start and end around these dates. We encourage all interested candidates to apply, even if their school/exam schedule does not allow them to meet these exact dates.
Resumes should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org, with "Application for Atlas Corps Internship" in the subject line. Applicants should familiarize themselves with the organization by going to www.atlascorps.org and the body of the email should include why you want to intern at Atlas Corps. Applicants should also indicate which internship position they prefer, which semester they are applying for (fall, winter, spring, or summer), and how much time you have available that semester.
