Internship description

The Member & Faith Based Services Department provides services to member organizations, affiliated churches, faith-based institutions and the non-profit social services community, including financial assistance to member agency clients in need, group purchasing services for non-profit social service providers, human resources consulting to member agencies, capacity building for early care and education programs, recruitment and referral of professional level volunteers and board candidates, coordination of corporate service projects, and distribution of gifts-in-kind. The department has primary responsibility for the FPWA Annual Conference and the Annual Toy and Gift Drive.

The Student Intern will provide all around administrative assistance to Member & Faith Based Services staff in the provision of the services named above. The intern will have the opportunity to take part in the FPWA Annual Conference, Toy and Gift Drive, and appropriate site visits to member organizations.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Outreach to member agencies, community partners, or Group Purchasing partners via telephone, mail, e-mail, or other communication deemed appropriate to provide or gather information and to solicit participation in programs
  • Administrative support to Member & Faith Based Services staff
  • Assistance to department staff in Annual Conference administration: registration, preparation of materials, and other duties as assigned
  • Back-up for department Administrative Assistant in his/her duties to maintain and update databases, set up for training sessions, and registration
  • Assistance as needed with the annual Toy and Gift Drive, Annual Conference, and other events
  • Prepare check requests as supervised
  • Assist with preparation of department meeting agenda and minutes
  • Assist with meeting set-up
  • Assist to maintain current member agency information
  • Assistance to other departments as needed
  • Other related duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be enrolled and attending courses at a post-secondary institution pursuing an Associate's or Bachelor's degree; must demonstrate financial need
  • Must be able to work a minimum of 12 hours per week, but not to exceed 20 hours per week during the academic year
  • This is a year-round internship (not seasonal/summer only). Candidate should be available to work up to 20 hours per week during the academic year.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Clear writing, speaking, and the ability to organize data
  • Willingness to learn and take initiative when appropriate
  • Prior clerical or office experience is preferred
